A long list of conduct rules for a residential swimming pool may seem a bit over the top. However, putting up a sign that sets out the dos and don’ts of what kinds of behaviour are acceptable around the pool at home will let your family members know that you value their pool safety.
In a municipal setting, the rules are designed to ensure the cleanliness and safety of the pool and the area around it.
While these rules can seem a bit excessive at home, having some rules prominently displayed in your pool area makes them more memorable and more likely to “stick”.
Most importantly, enforcing them consistently will make everyone in your family take pool safety more seriously.
At Nets for Africa, our pool rules would look something like this:
- Keep the pool safety net in place when the pool is not in use
- No swimming without an adult present
- No running around the pool
- Keep the pool gate closed at all times
- No diving in shallow water
Whatever your rules, make sure they are prominently displayed so that every member of your family knows the safety guidelines.
Below is a great example of a set of pool rules from The Richardsons found on Pinterest.
